Role and responsibilities

  • overseeing the provision of support to the 25 Members of the London Assembly and meetings of the Assembly and its committees. The Assembly holds the Mayor to account and investigates matters of interest to Londoners.
  • Mark is also the Deputy Greater London Returning Officer


Mark joined the GLA in July 2000, soon after it was set up. He was appointed as the Committee Services Manager and had previously been the Head of Democratic Services at the London Borough of Camden.

Prior to Camden, Mark worked for London Borough of Haringey and started his career at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Mark was born and brought up in North London and now lives in East Finchley (from which he cycles to City Hall most days) with his wife and occasionally his son who is now at university. Aside from professional interests Mark is a keen follower (ex participant) of a number of sports and has for the last 46 years suffered the consequences of supporting Tottenham Hotspur!
