Helping small firms get to grips with doing business in India

We want to help small firms in London do business overseas. Find out how the Mayor’s Export Programme is putting London businesses in touch with India, one of the fastest growing economies in the world…

The Mayor’s Export Programme helps small firms in London to grow by trading in overseas markets. Many businesses have set their sights on India’s huge and growing economy. To succeed, they first need to get to grips with the Indian ‘consumer’.

We set up the ‘India Marketing and Strategy programme’ specifically to help London firms secure business in India and build links with local partners. Last year ten London firms did a five day course at SP Jain Institute of Management and Research in Mumbai, one of the best business schools in Asia. It was relatively cheap for them too. The Mayor helps fund accommodation costs, and there’s in-kind support from our partners UKTI and BDO LLP.

Two of the delegates told us what they thought of the experience. Dr Keith Schlagbauer from Dr Foster said, “I found it extremely helpful in giving me a much clearer view of this highly complex market. Covering all elements required to set up and do business: from the accountant’s perspective right through to the emotional purchasing drivers unique to each region.

“The mentorship programme has already proven invaluable in identifying and setting up meetings with relevant key people. I can highly recommend the time investment in this programme.”

Fay Wilson from Aspen Pumps commented, “It was immensely helpful in expanding my understanding of how to penetrate the market and the business opportunities in India. “I look forward to putting my new found knowledge to good use in our Indian marketing strategy and reporting back on our continued expansion in this growing economy!”

Our next ‘India Marketing and Strategy’ trip to Mumbai takes place from 23-27 March 2015. If you want support like this for your firm, then apply by 24 February.
