The way you register to vote has changed
Hello, I’m Jeff Jacobs, the Greater London Returning Officer. I’m in charge of running next year’s elections for the Mayor of London and London Assembly. I’ll also be overseeing the collating and counting of votes and announcing the results at City Hall.
I just wanted to remind everyone in London that the way you register to vote has now changed. Under the old system, the ‘head of household’ could register everyone living at a particular address. The new system means that everyone must register themselves. It’s called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’ and you can find out more about it on the gov.uk website.
The elections take place on 5 May 2016. I’d like to see as many Londoners as possible taking part and helping shape our city’s democracy.
If you’ve never registered to vote or have recently moved, visit the gov.uk website to find out how to register.
If you’ve registered before and haven’t moved or are unsure, check with your local council to see if you’re on their register.
