Fiona Twycross

Deputy Mayor, Fire and Resilience


Dr Fiona Twycross has been on the London Assembly as a London-wide member since May 2012, and was re-elected in 2016. Fiona is a member of the Assembly's Economy Committee and the Education Panel. She is Deputy Leader of the London Assembly Labour Group.

In April 2018, Fiona was appointed by the Mayor of London to be London’s first Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience. Fiona has been Chair of the London Resilience Forum since 2016. She was Chair of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority from 2016 until its abolition at the end of March 2018 and was Vice-Chair from 2013 to 2016.

Fiona has long campaigned on the issue of Food Poverty and led an investigation in to the scale of food poverty in London on behalf of the Assembly’s Health and Environment Committee, which produced the report A Zero Hunger City: Tackling Food Poverty in London. Fiona is passionate about inequality in the economy and led an investigation into the lack of diversity in apprenticeships in her year as Chair of the Economy Committee. Furthermore, Fiona has been vocal on representing Londoners and London’s businesses on Brexit, leading the Economy Committee’s work in 2016/17 in this area. She has also raised issues of low pay, equal pay and the gig economy.

Prior to her election Fiona worked for the health charity Diabetes UK. She is a Trustee of the Encephalitis Society.
