Another nightclub closing - what happened to protecting London's nightlife?
so much for the promises that London's valuable nightlife will be saved, through the appointment of a "Night Czar" and Nightlife commission. It seems that this promise only extends to fashionable high profile nightclubs and our city's alternative community loses yet another venue.
I'm referring here to the closure of Club Kolis in Archway, due to proposals to turn it into a nursery and restaurant. http://islingtontribune.com/article/nursery-project-at-tavern-a-major-bl...
Why is this being allowed to happen, going back on the so called vision for a 24 hour London.

Hi abrewer.
Thanks for starting this discussion. We shared it with the policy team here at City Hall.
The Mayor has set up the city’s first ever Culture at Risk Office, a dedicated resource to support cultural spaces and venues at risk of closure. In its first year it has supported more than 200 cultural spaces, including helping protecting grassroots venues such as Club 414 in Brixton from closure. It is looking into the current situation with nightclub Koli’s’.
Talk London
Thank you for your response. The closure of Club Kolis is of great concern to the goth and rock alternative scene (which may not be as trendy as other club scenes but still just as vital to London - I myself wouldn't be in London if it wasn't for the goth scene which London used to be so famous for!). So many clubs have found a home here and flourished and are now forced to find alternate venues, in a rapidly diminishing pool.
Since 2001, I have seen the alternative culture become decimated in London. It was thriving and lively. Gossips was closed down and then the Intrepid Fox was forced to close down on Wardour Street and is now a burger place. Gossips was turned into a fancy wine bar and is now a hotel. Live venues such as the Mean Fiddler and the Astoria are gone along with Sin and there is no more Intrepid Fox. Madame JoJo's is gone. Camden Town has lost it's independent vibe and replaced with run of the mill shops. The market is barely keeping the original feeling as the shops in there are being replaced with bland, soulless places and only a few dots here and there of alternative, independent shops.
Soho used to be an interesting place to go, but now it has been gentrified. It seems only Compton Street and places there have been allowed to remain while any alternative clubs were forced out. London's areas that gave rise to new ideas, fashion and music have now been replaced. The vibe is gone along with a thriving scene. I cannot believe such trend-setting, individual things have been pushed out. And now Club Kolis, which has been thriving, is being forced to close to make way for another trendy restaurant and nursery? What a disgrace!
And now the Underdog Gallery too. https://www.facebook.com/underdogart/posts/1994331460631444
There will be no character left in London if this keeps on.
