Hi having had a varied life and lived all over the UK, I did serve in The British Army so am familiar with the quality of British Housing, and have worked and travelled all over the world. Having got married my wife was living in Colindale I had to move there. To be honest it is far worse than even Odessa Ukraine, esp Grahame Park. The place should of been torn down years ago. I now work for international pawnbrokers so I do retail Surveys and travel, but this area is a complete dive probably the worst I have ever seen in my entire life. I so feel for the people that are housed there, the whole area is basically unfit for human habitation. I have encountered more Rodents there than when I worked on and industrial Grain Farm, or was in the Back of the Jungle in Thailand. The people are suffering that live there and the housing quality is a total shame on London as a supposed wealthy city. Even in the latest plans if there is less social housing there, if the people can be housed outside London in better housing that seems fine to me. There are lots of lovely people that deserve a far higher standard of living than they are being allowed by delays to the current re-generation plans for purely political reasons. As regeneration is on the cards very few people will take a chance to invest in small business start ups for fear of losing money. This thus lowers levels of facilities and further degenerates the area. The redevelopment in Colindale by the superstores looks fantastic, with good facilities in operations like "Bang-Bang" foodhall that provide modern retail, diversity of cuisine and culture, and micro-economic environment providing jobs. Sadly unless the go ahead to redevelop the sink parts of Colindale moves forward very quickly then these businesses will suffer and risk closing, thus Colindale could be like Parts of Jacksonville Florida with closed up areas and a ghetto. The regeneration was started kick started keep the ball moving or risk major probs.
