Does anyone else share my hatred of these modern machines? It seems to me that they make an incredible amount of noise, emit vast quantities of polluting fumes, and (almost) all with the aim of saving the 'labourers' a bit of time and exercise in collecting leaves using more traditional methods like good old garden rakes. I would agree that there are some tight spaces, with dense undergrowth, where it's very difficult to remove leaves manually, however this is surely no excuse for the very widespread use of leaf blowers all over town. If the Mayor can impose penalties on diesel vehicles then I would vote for penalties also for using leaf blowers . . .
