I live in a neighbourhood in SE London where slum landlords are rife. They take advantage of the bigger houses and gardens to not only let out rooms in the houses to as many people as possible but construct sub-standard, illegal outbuildings to house people in the gardens as well. These corrupt landlords are taking advantage of vulnerable people down on their luck, creating unsafe and unsavoury environment for both those living in them and those around them.
Councils seem to be doing a poor job of monitoring as these situations are common - with certain estate agents in on it as I've seen agents post bogus pictures online. It's a difficult situation for those around them as no one wants to be the one turfing out the poor people who live in those conditions, potentially making them homeless, but there must be a better way.
Has anyone else seen this in their neighbourhood?
