Without doubt there is a shortage of property to rent in London and pressure is being applied on Outer London Boroughs to give up their Green Belt and other open spaces used for years by local residents, to build council and private dwellings. The numbers being bandied about such as 30,000 in my Borough of Havering is about 90,000 new residents using our hospitals, education, doctors, you name it, they are already creakiig under the present load. Pressure to build more homes will mean even more people being forced to live in flats. We do not have and do not want 24 storey flats in Havering.
Haverings policy on providing homes is Havering Homes for Havering People, with the requirement of 6 years residence in the borough. What a good idea, why are others not following this fair way of allocating council property?
